About Deep Groove HiFi

Where Signal Meets Passion

Deep Groove HiFi exists because great audio writing is hard to find.

Most of what’s out there falls into one of two camps: overly technical specs pages that tell you nothing about how something actually sounds, or breathless marketing copy dressed up as a review. We wanted something different — honest, in-depth coverage written by someone who genuinely cares about the music first and the gear second.

Who We Are

I’m Kevin — Sully to my friends — based in Georgia, originally from the Adirondack Mountain region of Northern New York. I had strayed away from HiFi for about 25 years when, a couple of years ago, I realized how much I missed truly listening to music. I started slow, but quickly worked my way through a lot of used and new equipment over the past two years. Along the way I noticed something: there aren’t many genuinely useful websites, calculators, or guides for people who want to learn and build their dream system from the ground up. That’s the reason Deep Groove HiFi was born. Enjoy the site — and please reach out with feedback on what you’d like to see next.

We cover DACs, amplifiers, turntables, speakers, streamers, and the cables and accessories that connect them. Our focus is the sub-$5,000 space where the real value decisions get made — where a $400 amplifier can genuinely outperform one that costs four times as much if you know what to look for.

One important note: I’m a passionate enthusiast, not a professional audio engineer. Everything here reflects my own hands-on experience, listening impressions, and research — not formal training or lab credentials. I aim to be accurate and honest, but treat this as one well-informed hobbyist’s perspective, and always do your own research before making a purchase.

What We Believe

Measurements matter. So does listening. We pay attention to objective data — frequency response, THD, SNR — because they tell part of the story. But we never forget that the point of all this equipment is to make music more emotionally engaging. Numbers alone can’t tell you whether something will make you want to stay up until 2am listening to records.

Transparency over hype. We participate in affiliate programs and display advertising — that’s how the site pays for itself. But those relationships don’t influence our editorial content. When something isn’t worth buying, we say so. When a budget option outperforms a flagship, we say that too.

The music is the point. Gear is a means to an end. The end is the music. We never lose sight of that.
